PuristIQ is a brand of NousVigil LLC, a Wyoming (USA) limited liability company ("NousVigil", "we", "us"), which operates the PuristIQ app and is responsible for the processing described in this policy. We take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our mobile application.
PuristIQ keeps your personal data on your device and does not collect it on our infrastructure. Our backend only handles product lookups, anonymous community contributions, and the label photos described under “Camera & Label Images” below.
PuristIQ is an Offline First application. All your health profiles, dietary preferences, ingredient customizations, shopping lists, and scan history are stored locally on your device. We do not collect, store, or transmit personal health data to our servers.
Apart from barcode lookups, nothing leaves your device unless you allow it: a hard-to-read label photo is sent only if you turn on AI label reading (see “Camera & Label Images”), and community contributions only if you turn on Anonymous Contribution (see below). Your health profile is never part of either.
Our app requires camera access to scan ingredient labels. In the normal case, all image processing happens locally on your device using on-device OCR, and the image never leaves your phone.
There is one optional exception, called AI label reading. When on-device OCR cannot read a label confidently, the app can send that single photo to our own backend so an AI model can extract the ingredient text. This happens only with your permission:
When you have allowed it and a photo is sent:
Your personal data is stored exclusively on your device. Optionally, you may enable the Cloud Backup feature, which saves an encrypted backup file to your own Google Drive App Data Folder (Android) or iCloud (iOS).
This backup file is stored in a private, app-specific folder that is not visible in your regular Drive or iCloud interface and cannot be accessed by other apps or other users. PuristIQ has no access to this file— it exists entirely within your personal Google or Apple account.
Google and Apple may have access to data stored on their infrastructure as per their own privacy policies. Cloud backup is entirely optional and can be disabled at any time from the app settings.
When you enable Google Drive backup, PuristIQ uses Google Sign-In and requests the
drive.appdata scope. Google user data we access: We access only the
app-specific data folder in your Google Drive to store your encrypted backup. We do not collect,
read, or access your email, profile, or any other Google account data.
How we use it: The data written to this folder is your encrypted app backup and nothing else. We use it solely to provide the backup and restore functionality you requested.
Sharing and disclosure: We do not share, transfer, or disclose your Google user data to any third parties. The backup file stays in your own Google account.
Data protection: Your backup is encrypted before being written to Google Drive. Security procedures are in place to protect the confidentiality of your data.
Retention and deletion: You control the backup file. You can disable Cloud Backup at any time in app settings. To delete the backup from Google Drive, use your Google account settings or disable the feature; the app will stop writing new backups.
PuristIQ is free. It shows no advertising, contains no analytics services, and does no tracking of you across apps or websites. We do not build a profile of you and we do not sell or share personal data.
We use the following third-party services:
Please refer to each provider's Privacy Policy for details on how they process data.
Anonymous Contribution is off by default. If you turn it on in Settings, the app first shows what is shared and asks you to confirm. From then on it uploads only items you create or categorise yourself: custom ingredients (name, tags, risk level, category, and their translations, descriptions and warnings), custom shopping-list products (name and category), a category you give to an uncategorised shopping-list product (only the product's ID and the category), and barcodes you link to a product. Items you created before turning it on are uploaded at that moment.
Each upload also carries the app version, the app language and the time it was sent. No session ID or any other identifier is sent or stored: our backend only keeps one anonymous total of how many uploads arrived each day, to cap abuse. No account, name, email, device identifier or advertising ID is attached, and your IP address is not stored. Your health profiles, conditions, pets, scan history, photos and the contents of your lists are never sent. Since version 3.0.2, every uploaded item is reviewed by us before it is shared with other users; some items accepted earlier were approved automatically when several matching submissions arrived. You can turn contribution off at any time in Settings.
If you had Anonymous Contribution turned on before app version 3.0.2, the app asks you once to confirm again, and uploads nothing until you do. If you decline, it is turned off. Before this version, uploads from some app versions did not reach our servers; any older session IDs that were stored are being erased.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
